Harassment and other infringements
“During Lockdown and Covid 19 we have seen an alarming spike in harassment and sexual harassment incidents in the workplace. Those of us, who work in the field of women’s rights are also acutely aware of the effect of Lockdown on gender-based violence, which has seen a distressing increase. Imagine the unadulterated terror of women, locked down with the partner they fear most, when in ‘normal times’ they could enjoy a few hours of respite by escaping to the relative peace of their respective workplaces, which is now no longer as safe.”

Dear Employers – A perspective on fairness from me, your employee.
A perspective on fairness from me, your employee.
First and foremost, we are adults too. This is not a parent/child relationship and you are not my parent. It would be wonderful in your interaction with me if you remembered that I am a grown woman with my own children. It infringes on my dignity if you talk down to me like that.
Fairness pt.2

Fairness and Unfair Discrimination. Two distinct Constitutional rights.
More than once in the past few months, when asked to explain “fairness” in the labour relations sense, as in, “what is the right to fairness we are guaranteed in the Constitution”, students have answered that it is the right to equality and not to be discriminated against. This is not correct. Fairness in the Labour Relations Act, 66 of 1995 is something different.
